Network Operations Engineer
Part time

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and tech-savvy Starlink Business Installation & Repair Technician to join our field operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for site surveys, permanent structural mounting, alignment, and network integration of Starlink Business (High Performance) satellite systems for enterprise clients. You will ensure reliable, high-speed broadband deployment and provide troubleshooting and repair services to minimize business downtime.

We offer a fast-paced traveling tech model, competitive compensation, and the opportunity to be at the forefront of the Starlink Business rollout.

Apply today—we are hiring and deploying rapidly!

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Survey & Obstruction Analysis: Conduct comprehensive on-site assessments using the Starlink app and specialized tools to identify optimal mounting locations with a 100% clear view of the sky.
  • Hardware Installation: Securely mount Starlink Business dishes (Flat High Performance or Standard Enterprise) on commercial roofs, facades, or towers using appropriate commercial mounts (e.g., non-penetrating ridge mounts, ballasted mounts, or tower brackets).
  • Cable Routing & Weatherproofing: Route heavy-duty, shielded Starlink Ethernet cables from exterior mounts into server rooms or IT closets, ensuring proper grounding, drip loops, and weatherproof sealing.
  • Network Integration: Configure the Starlink system and integrate it into existing corporate network architectures (firewalls, routers, SD-WAN, and switches). Configure custom public routing or static IPs if required by the client.
  • System Testing & Quality Assurance: Perform throughput, latency, and stability tests to verify the installation meets enterprise SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
  • Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose and resolve hardware failures, cable degradation, obstruction issues, or network misconfigurations. Perform swap-outs of defective dishes, routers, or power supplies.
  • Client Training: Educate the client's internal IT staff on how to monitor system health via the Starlink dashboard.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Satellite Technology: Deep understanding of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) vs. Geostationary (GEO) satellite systems, look angles, and obstruction impacts.
  • Network Engineering Basics: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DHCP, static routing, VLANs, Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT), and firewall configurations.
  • Structural Mechanics: Familiarity with commercial roofing materials (TPO, EPDM, metal) and the specific mounting hardware required to prevent structural damage or leaks.
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE): Understanding of high-power PoE requirements specific to Starlink’s high-performance hardware.
  • Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to OSHA ladder safety, fall protection, and PPE standards for working at heights.

Certifications & Qualifications

Preferred Technical Certifications

  • CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA: Essential for understanding how to integrate Starlink into complex business networks.
  • SBCA (Satellite Broadcasting & Communications Association) Certification: Or equivalent satellite installer certification.
  • FoA (Fiber Optic Association) or ETA Certified Electronics Technician: Beneficial for advanced cabling and signal troubleshooting.

Safety & Physical Requirements

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification: Highly preferred for commercial job sites.
  • Tower Climbing & Fall Protection Certification: (e.g., ComTrain) Fall protection, ladder safety, roof safety, tower safety, or commercial job-site safety training (if installing on specialized commercial towers or high-rise structures).
  • Experience with commercial roof types such as TPO, EPDM, membrane, metal, shingle, or tile.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb tall ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, light rain/snow).
  • Valid Driver’s License: With a clean driving record to operate a company service vehicle.

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial satellite installation (VSAT), wireless internet service provider (WISP) deployment, or telecom field engineering.
  • Experience configuring enterprise networking gear (Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Fortinet).
